The Reception desk is located on the ground floor of the Building, which
is accessible through the Medical Center’s main entrance at 3, Hussein El
Meamar Street. We will try to assign you to the type of room that you may
have requested, but this is not always possible. If you wish to discuss your
room assignment, please call Admitting at (202)-5758932 or (202)-5758022.
Valuables
Please do not bring large sums of money, jewelry or other valuables to the
Medical Center. You need only a small amount of cash for items such as
newspapers or magazines. The Medical Center cannot assume responsibility for any
personal possessions not locked in a valuables box or safe.
In the Admitting Department you will be asked to list belongings which you
plan to keep in your room.
ID Card
For your protection, you will be given an identification card with your name
and the name of your attending physician. Please it with you at all times. And
do not lose it because it will be helpful in retrieving your file in case you
visit us again, either as an inpatient or an outpatient.
Medications
Please bring with you to the Medical Center a list of the medications you are
taking and the dosages. You should not, however, bring to the Medical Center any
prescription or non-prescription medications unless your attending physician
specifically asks that you do so.
Meals
The Medical Center offers patients a restaurant-style menu. Each morning, you
will receive a menu selector on which you can circle your food choices for the
dinner that night and breakfast and lunch for the next day, in accordance with
dietary requirements from your physician. If you are not available to complete
the menu in advance, you may be asked to select lunch and dinner for the same
day once your doctor has written your dietary requirements. A member of the
Patient Services Assistance staff can help you fill out the menu and will review
your selections each day to ensure that your diet is well-balanced. If you have
questions related to your dietary needs, please ask your nurse to page your
dietitian.
Meals arrive at approximately the same time each day. Your primary nurse can
tell you the specific meal times for your unit. Sometimes certain tests or
procedures will require changes or delays in your meals.
Also guest trays are available for your guests at an additional charge.
Contact your primary nurse or dietary assistant if you would like further
information.
Visiting
Visiting hours are generally from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m., but if these times are
not convenient for you, please talk to your primary nurse about more appropriate
times. If you do not wish to have visitors, please let your primary nurse know.
Because patients in the intensive care unit have special needs, visitors to
these units are asked to check in with a nurse before seeing the patient and to
limit visits to short periods.
To protect patients from illness, relatives and friends with colds, the flu,
or other respiratory infections are discouraged from visiting.
Smoking
The center organization prohibits smoking within hospitals and at the center
entrance.
Security
The Medical Center’s security officers patrol the hospital 24 hours a
day.
Electrical Appliances
For your protection, strict safety codes in the hospital prohibit the use of
any electrical appliances brought from home, such as TV sets, VCRs, radios, fax
machines, computers, hair dryers or electric blankets.
